Heart, Head and Hands (3H)

Man was made in God's image and likeness. He is therefore a triune being. Man is a spirit, he has a soul and he lives in a body.

Man is spirit

God knew you before you were formed in your mothers womb because you started off as a spirit man before the body was formed (Psalm 139:13-16). Just as Jeremiah  was told he had been appointed a prophet even before he was born (Jeremiah 1:5), the days laid out for a person's life are set apart by God (Psalm 139:16). Embracing this understanding will help parents to understand the instruction to '...train up a child in the way he should go, so that when he grows he will not depart from it' (Proverbs 22:6). This instruction brings out how each individual has a particular bent i.e. how they are gifted, wired and structure; also they have a unique purpose which they are meant to fulfill here on earth.

Man has a soul

The soul is the seat of the human will, emotions and thoughts. The will is the rudder by which a man's soul is stirred. Emotions in essence are the weather conditions under which one sails. Thoughts govern the processing which takes place in a man's soul.

Through our life journey the different experiences we go through have the potential to unearth or to earth (cover) who we truly are. The way one is socialised at home, in the community, at church and around peers can lead them to discovering more of who they are or it might remove them from who they truly are. Experiencing much hurt and pain can result in one just existing and not living.

 Thanks be to God who always causes us to triumph. Despite the ravages one might have faced in life, God is more than able to restore you to his original intended design and purpose. All the layers which might have been choking out the real you can be peeled off by the help of the Holy Spirit.

Man lives in a body

In order for man to operate on earth he needs to be in a form which aligns with the rules of the earth i.e. no spirit being can lawfully operate on earth except in physical form. This is the very reason why Jesus had to come on earth and be born so He could be housed in a physical body. Now with the Holy Spirit in our midst, we are His dwelling place.

In his book The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren brings out that how a person is shaped can be seen in the form of an acronym: SHAPE
S= Spiritual gifts
H= Heart (what you're passionate about)
A= Abilities/natural talents you are born with
P= Personality (introvert, extrovert, or a mix)
E= Experiences (good and bad)

Heart needs to be transformed in order to be conformed to God's will. The heart represents the abundance of who man is and his words show what is in his heart (Proverbs 23:7; Matthew 12:34). In order to become all He intends for us to be we need for our hearts to be shaped to align with who God intended for us to be.

Head needs to be informed of that which is the mind of God in order to have a change in the way life is viewed. The Holy Spirit is there as a Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby) [John 14:16- AMP]. All that we need to do is to decide to engage with Him. He will never force us to do anything. God has given us free will for us to decide. Just as Christ had to decide to lay down His life, we also need to surrender our lives as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1).

Hands will then perform the good works which God has already preordained for us (Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. [Amplified]
